Rough timeline for ex-batt intro's

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've decided that I when I bolster my flock I'm going to do it with ex-batts.

I can seperate them off for a little while to recover, before moving them into a sectioned off area in a (soon to be purchased) cube run.

How long do you think it will take them to recover sufficiently to a) move into a seperated area in the cube run and b) start being introduced to the hybrid girls.

Thanks,

Steve

Each girl is individual, so there's no real timeline as such. I'd keep your new girls 'confined to barracks' for a few days as it'll give them time to get used to where 'home' now is.

You also need to be sure that there is no cros infection. (most exbatts are well vaccinated - but this throws up problems if you are mixing them with pure breds that haven't got the flu jabs)

You'll find that the exbatts are real scraggys - but our girls took just a few hours to start acting like real chickens and s"Ooops, word censored!"ing about. Feathers will be slow to regrow, but just add supplements etc.

The most important thing though is to keep your eye on them. The fight for head girl can be frightening and upsetting, but you must let the pecking order establish itself. Unless one of them is having a really hard time, then keep them supervised. You'll need to ensure that no girl is excluded from getting food and water.

We're getting 3 more on Sunday.

Well done on giving caged girls a home.

Hope this helps.
