black pigmentation on comb and face

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have 6 exbatts and 2 speckeldys. The exbatts are about 2 years old and the specks nearly 4. Recently a couple of the ex batts have been getting more and more discolouration both on their combs/wattles and on their faces. By that I mean the bit that goes from their beak around to the eyes.

Now both speckeldys are also getting these marks.

The black marks are not raised or blisters... just look like pigmentation.

I've trawled google and the most frequent answers seem to be

a) frostbite..... definately not that!

b) sunburn.... don't think so as they are not blisters and the chooks have masses of shade

c)bullying/pecking.... definately not in the case of the speckledys. They are top chooks with whom no one messes!

d)fowl pox... possibly but they seem so well. They are eating well, drinking, tails up and look like healthy chooks.

Apart from these black marks. Which are getting worse.

I'd take them to the vet if they were showing signs of illness; and maybe I still will if the marks go on getting worse.

Before I do does any one have any ideas?

J
