Hello fellow chicken owners,

My name is Sian and I’ve had chickens for about a month now.

They're odd little things =) I’ve been trying to figure out what all the noises they make mean, not having much luck so far, so if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful to know. =)

Not sure why my ginger nut ranger (Lottie) isn't laying yet either, maybe just a late bloomer?

Hi Sian ... I'm a fairly new chicken-keeper too having had mine for around 2 months - isn't it fun? What age are your chickens? Yours just might be too young to lay yet. Think they come into lay around 18-20 weeks onwards.

Hi, im also a new chicken owner. Ive had 3 Isa Browns now for just over a week. It is very strange, but im also finding it very enjoyable. Not had chance to speak to my girls today with all this rain. I dont think they are all that impressed either, although they have plenty of shelter.

Had about 14 eggs in 8 days, they seem happy, and like you make all sorts of odd noises. Although they arent noisy at all, i do smile as i walk upto the run and they make an odd noise. Cant work out what it means, but they always look excited by me, with their bright eyes and necks stretched up at me.

Still lots to learn, and im protecting them as best as i can from mr fox, mr cat, and mr hawk....

Regards

Mark

Hello sian and welcome to the forum!!!

It's frustrating that she hasn't laid yet but be patient. Has she got all the signs? Red comb and face or crouching when you go near her?

What's noises are they making and i'm sure we can help you out. they can purr when happy, or announce themselves loudly when they've laid an egg. They also just chatter alot just because they can!!

Let us know!

Thanks so much for all the lovely messages =)

I'm having great fun looking after my chickens =) You will defiantly find me in the rain talking to my girls, I think my next door neighbours think I’m crazy!

My little ones are about 24 weeks now.

Lotte has all the right signs of laying but still nothing.... today I got two eggs while I was at work, both looking very different, so I’m not sure if one was from her...fingers crossed!

I’ve been very successful in introducing my cat (Deeley) to the hens, no trouble as of yet.

If you have two hens and you got two different eggs, then Lottie has started laying!! :D Hens only lay one egg per day maximum (with the odd exception) but each egg will still be the same in appearance!! So congrats and well done Lottie GNR !! :D:D:D

Best wishes for you and your girls!!
