Recommended Posts

My chicken skull got out of her pen while the dog (7mth old pup) woas out in garden................totally forgot dog was out and obviously didn't think chicken would get out!!!!:shock::shock: its quite literally happened

Loads of feathers around but no blood or bite marks.............think shes more distressed than anything, i've wrapped her up & put her back in her house(in the hope she feels safe again) but shes quite still & what i think is panting, what else can i do because i haven't got a clue????

If she is just shocked then bring her in and put her in a warm dark box for a while, when she is calm double check for injuries and then give her a drink before she goes back out to the hen house, she will be ok even if you keep her in overnight

If you can't see any bite marks or blood, maybe she is just frightened. Worse case scenario maybe she got hurt inside. I would keep her warm and bring her inside if possible to keep an eye on her, and if she hasn't picked up in the morning get her checked out. Good luck!

I lost one of my chicks because of my over playful puppy. She broke into the pen when I wasnt looking and decided to 'play' with the chicks. It would have been instant, pretty sure the chicks kneck was broken. When i went up there hearing all the comotion bella was carrying round another chick. Luckerly that one was ok. I was worried there might have been internal damage, but he was fine after an hour or so, so it was definatly shock.

If your chicken is hobbling or in apparent discomfort and hasnt picked up by morning then you should take her to the vet, otherwise she should be ok :)

Hope this helps

Thanks guys :D

well i think instinct took over and i did kinda knw wot to do 8) Shes very quiet but had a drink & a wee walk around but is just lying in the house, shes on half hourly checks & the dog is quite literally in the dog house......haven't been able to look at her but i'm sure if Skull is okay we'll all get over it!! My poor daughter got a terrible fright as she had went out to see why the dog was barking...........& because of the fright she gave me she got a rollicking into the bargain but it was sheer reaction

Anyway away out to check on Skull again & i'll keep you posted but thanks again :D
