Tigerlily
Sorry... I'm not swearing, I mean how the shell was formed! Can anyone help? One of our eggs today was a real deep brown/red colour - on deeper inspection the shell was heavily speckled in blood I'm pretty sure Rosie (who has been my best layer) maybe having some trouble "downstairs". She was top chook and is now bottom of the pecking order and I've had a few softies lately too... Is it the start of the henopause? I am so worried that she could get peritonitis as she has been egg-bound every now and then bless her. She's now 2.5 years old and very healthy in other respects. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x
Egluntyne
Sounds as if she might have had an internal tear. Probably just a tiny one, but a little blood goes a long way. I'd give her a **Basic Health Check**, and consider giving her some limestone flour and cod liver oil to see if that helps.
