I know that this is probably a really dumb question but......I got a 16 week old Black Rock hen yesterday. The breeder said that they were on layers pellets. Trouble is she doesn't seem to be eating at all. And I have read somewhere that you aren't supposed to give layers pellets until they start to lay.

I have only ever had ex-bats so they always get ex-bat pellets or crum. Am I okay to feed her this or do I need to get some growers feed?

Ideally you'd feed a hybrid layers pellets from about 18 weeks but its not the end of the world if she has them now

 

I'd say the lack of eating is the stress of the move

 

Is she separate to the others? if so does she have a pal as she could be lonely, if she is with the others are they keeping her from eating?

She is in the run with my original ex-bat Gwen. She does seem to chase her away a bit but even when Gwen is out FRing the new girl still doesn't seem to want to eat.

She is eating the grass though is this good or bad?

Maybe add another feed station in the run so the original hen cant guard the food

 

If the new hen seems happy enough then I would let het get on with it, she wont starve herself

 

Its always a good idea to keep a new hen separate for a week or so though just be be sure she isnt ill

I had a mad moment yesterday.I just put them in together I know I should have waited and am probably going to regret it but...

The breeder said that she is fully vaccinated and she seems healthy, I truly hope that I haven't made a huge mistake.
