happyhenny
i know at first it sounds rather funny. but im afraid its started to worry us. it started with just one or two bare bottomed birds. but now its all of them. there is a deffinate lack of rear plumage! we done think its anything serious as they all seem happy and are eating and behaving like nothings changed, and they all seem very healthy (if a little chilly!) we have been thinking about what could possibly be causing this baldness of the bums. we know its not mites as we have covered them all in mite powder so we have ruled that risk out. the only other thing we can come up with is the hight of the roosting bars. we have an eggcube, however this problem has never occured before. but we have noticed that the roosting bars seem to be conciderably lower than other chicken houses. so we were wondering if maybe when they roost thier rears are touching thier droppings. and we do clean the house everyweek like recomended, so there isnt exactly exccess droppings. we wondered if anybody else has had this problem, or if there could be any other causes. thank you very much
Space Chick
Could feather pecking be the cause? I have 2 bare bottomed girls, they are fine but get feathered pecked when they dustbathe. They seem to like it though
