Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

Hi, just interested in what sort of accommodation do Quails need and how big, and do they need a cockeral or can you just have females. how much do they lay and for how long etc etc??? pics of accommodation would be great!

I have my quail in a four foot high run from aviaries4u. The sides measure 5ft x 3ft.

In there I have a male and five females but you do not need a male...we just like them. They don't make a lot of noise. We have three pens of quail each with a male and you wouldn't really know that they were there. They don't compete like cockerels would.

 

Quail are very entertaining. We enjoy watching ours whilst having breakfast out on the patio.

As you have a run do you ever have problems with them escaping when collecting the eggs or cleaning them out???

Hi, mine are in an eglu with the standard 2m run. Fabulous accommodation for them. However, I have lost one. They are getting really friendly and so come running up when I go out to them, expecting mealworms! One got so excited one day that she flew up and over my shoulder and off into the undergrowth. I spent hours trying to catch her, to no avail, even though she seemed to want me to. They are just so small and so quick. So, advice is, be careful, even when you think they are really tame, as they are quite flighty little things. Gorgeous though! Do go ahead and get some!

Mine have got out a few times but they are really tame and they just sit on the grass waiting to be picked up. The run has a little lock on the inside so you can lock yourself in when collecting eggs.
