coco
My light sussex hasn't started laying yet she is about 18/19 weeks. Her comb and wattles are bright red. She was standing in the run earlier in what I would call a typical softie stance, puffed up, not eating looking sleepy. Could it be she has her first softie egg on the way. She is on day 8 of antibiotics for a cold. She was fine this morning. she has gone to bed early tonight, I seem to have had nothing but ill health with her since i got her three weeks ago. Any help would be appreciated.
Olly
If she is just coming into lay, then it's quite possible that her first egg could be a soft-shelled one, and it does make them look a bit off-colour and out of sorts, if that's what it is then as soon as she has passed it she will perk up. As she's already on antibiotics, I would keep an eye on her to make sure it isn't some other infection; I'm sorry you've had problems with such a young hen, hopefully she will get over it all soon. coco
I don't think its a softie now. she is still very qiuet and not eating I think she's still drinking. She now has very runny poo and keeps shaking her head. she is spending a lot of time lying down or going into the house. the vet said to leave her over the weekend ans see how she is Monday then start more antibiotics, but I'm really quiet worried about her. Could the Baytril have upset her digestive system.
