Chicken getting very skinny but still eating? Worms?

Recommended Posts

I have to post this really quickly as i'm going out shortly but basically my bantam Rory is broody and has been for ages.

We became sick and tired of trying to stop it every time, so we now just leave her to it. We try to make her leave for a bit every day to eat but because shes broody shes bullied by the other chickens, and she retreats back upstairs.

HOWEVER, I often feel her crop and its full and I see her scratching around and I get her out when there are treats and she eats fine. For some strange reason shes really skinny now even though shes eating and passing her food well. Is this worms? In which case should I deworm her? Or just not eating enough? Her disposition is happy and (besides the loss of weight) healthy.

Thanks guys!

(Ughhh broody chickens are SO ANNOYING. You think they would be able to tell if there was a chick or not, or if they'd had you-know-what with a male chicken, but apparently not. Humph)

I think your best bet is to put her in a broody cage for a few day and snap her out of it once and for all.

Broody hens do get very scraggy and out of condition, and this, plus their raised temperature can in turn make them a magnet for red mite

Advice **here**

I'd worm her anyway, once she is back to normal.
