Cheryl Posted July 30, 2010 Share Posted July 30, 2010 I have 4 Polands five weeks old and 2 Seramas which are 4 weeks old , also three 1 week old Polands, as a result of my bad planning, I have three separate brooders and three heaters,, all very expensive.. I have some more hatching on Sunday.. how can I begin to mix them together?.. do I keep them all separate till they are much older?..I can accomodate all of them, I have another cage I can use as a brooder and the 5 week old Polands are no longer being heated, all are indoors in my Tv room, haha, my other half says we are living on a farm... jam Posted July 31, 2010 Share Posted July 31, 2010 Perhaps you could mix the polands and seramas as they are a similar age...? and then perhaps when the new chicks are a week old or so you could mix them with the polands that are currently one week old? Im not too sure, im sure someone will correct me if im wrong! My chicks went outside when they were about 7 weeks old, but probably should have gone out sooner, they were practically breaking out of their cage! Cheryl Posted July 31, 2010 Author Share Posted July 31, 2010 Yes I thought in the same lines except the Polands are 3 times as big as the Seramas do you think it matters ?.. I know Ive done this all wrong in terms of planning but when you order eggs off Ebay they come all over the place.. The Seramas are also still under heat.. but I think next week they can come off.. do you think its warm enough to take them off sooner they are very feathered, although they are only about 3 and a bit weeks old.. they are all indoors and I put a heater on at night for them all aswell... jam Posted August 3, 2010 Share Posted August 3, 2010 I dont think the size difference would be much of a problem. I had buff orp large fowl and pekins together and they were fine. Perhaps to build up their tolerance you could turn off the heater and put them outside in warm weather. So long as they are sheltered from the wind they should be ok. Then you could judge when to put them out by how they react to the outside.
