esta
Hello everyone, I'm afraid I have to tell you that we purchased 2 younger japenese quails a month or two ago, and we tried to integrate them in with the older californian quails, and after a while was a brilliant success having been in there all together a week or 2 with no s"Ooops, word censored!"ping or fighting was fantastic, I was over the moon. This morning I come down to find my beautiful cream female japenese dead, and the brown male japenese running up to her and away constantly. I went to take the bird out to save him his heart ache and she had her top bit of her beak broken off and one side of her face covered in blood and you could not make out any features. Apart from that the rest of her body was completely fine. Something had got in through the smallest gap by bending up the wire and going between the wood and stone. It was deverstating. The brown one seems to be ok with the other two as he is dust bathing but what should I do now? What could the predator of been? Sorry to send a post on such a sad note We will miss her dearly x

esta
Thank you, he is doing okay, it's better because we have some other quails with him, but we are in the process of improving the protection of the avairy, then we are going to purchase him another mate. It was a sad loss, but these things happen. xx
userfriendly1980
Sorry to hear that Might be a rat.. I'm so scared of them dam things squeezing through any gap. My mum keeps seeing the same mice/rat in our garden and it keeps getting bigger (I posted a earlier post of mice) however its becoming apparent that the mouse i saw is quickly growing day by day and resembles more of a rat. We have alot of cats but the cats seem more interested in my quails them the rat! GRR
