vaksy
Hi This may seem like a stupid questions but i have 4 new chickens (20 weeks not yet laying) and none of them are perching at night, some do during the day usually on my garden furniture, but not one at night. They are sleeping in the house on the straw either in the nesting box or just on the floor. Is this normal or is something wrong? Many Thanks
Guest
Mine do this but perch in the day. It is fine some chickens just decide not to.
Chucky1
Yep as Rhys said. They'll probably get the hang of it in a couple of weeks but if they don't it doesn't matter. Good Luck
Mercedes55
I opened the egg port on my Eglu last night just to see how our hens were and they looked so funny. Head hen was sitting in the nest, 1 was behind her with another nearly sitting on her and only 1 of them was on the perch. As mine are ex batts I think that could be one reason and I don't think it matters as long as they are happy. I do make sure I remove any poo from the nest box first thing so that they don't lay eggs on that
ISCA
Mine didn't initially when I got them at 8 weeks, one by one they started to perch at night but one of my Orpingtons, the bottom chook, still sleeps on the coop floor which I assume the others think is her rightful place In the day only my Dorking perches on the WIR perches. They are all individuals and if they decided not to perch, that is fine.

chuckmum6
Just pop them onto the perch at night after they have gone to bed, they will eventually get the idea!
