Stef
Just got the chickens last Saturday. Magpie Ranger is biggest, very red comb and is laying 1 a day already. Light Sussex, smaller, no bright comb and vent is tight. So they are OK! Blue Ranger has an enlarged vent, redder comb and seems to be trying to lay..... she has spent a lot of today in the nest box. I have picked her up (thanks to whoever said that that should be a priority, I can just about get them all now) and had a feel around her vent, it is still wide but underneath it feels a bit puffy. Nothing solid or squishy, just a bit puffy. Am I a panicky new mum???? Or is she having trouble that I can help her with? Help! Egluntyne
Early days. It takes them a few attempts to get the hang of it, so I wouldn't worry yet.
Stef
Somehow I feel relieved just seeing someone else write that! I just couldn't persuade myself that she's but a little 'un and needs time. I'm staying away from the chickens until locking up time!!!!
Stef
Thanks for being kind - I've found the proper thread/forum for this type of question now. And I should have just waited. I now have a teeny, slightly specked egg from the blue ranger!
