We don't own a dog but a couple of years ago we 'fostered' a puppy and kept her for a year. Part of the requirement was that we play games with her to sharpen her mind. Her favorite game was hide and seek. I would hold her back while one of the kids hid and then I would let her go when they called 'ready'. That was always fun but she amazed us one day by taking her turn at hiding. She would stand under the table or behind a curtain, we would pretend not to find her and then she was so excited when we did. She was utterly hopeless we could see her wagging tale or silly face sticking out, grinning. After that, she always had a turn at hiding.

Another little trick she taught herself was quite evil.

Because of her 'job', she wasn't allowed to sit on chairs, so in the house we kept her on a soft leash so that we could tug her off without involving teeth or growling. One morning we were all in the kitchen, six adults and a dog, and watched as she slowly walked around my husbands feet, picked up the end of the lead and tugged hard. She obviously thought this was hilarious and would do it often, she was very quiet and gentle during the first part of the manoeuvre so you wouldn't always notice her.

I hope she forgot that particular trick.
