fluffyfeet
I have noticed over the last couple of days that when I shut my two broody (again!! ) out of the coop, they jump up on the roof and start furiously wiping their beaks and give me 'evils'. They look really funny and I can only imagine what they're thinking at the time - little darlings! Has anyone else noticed this with their girls? finger lickin good
Our 3 regularly wipe their beaks, I don't think it has anything to do with being broody. I always just assumed it was to give it a clean, but have also noticed that they do it when they have eaten something that they really like. Jewels
Hi, I agree with finger lickin, my girls always wipe their pecks after eating snails or if they manage to find a slug and especially after eating porridge. Think it just them cleaning.
alet_chicken
I suspect mine also do it on the patio for sharpening purposes
Egluntyne
A bit of googling shows that they do it for 2 reasons. To clean their beaks before preening so that they don't wipe gunk all over their feathers. To send a message to others that they are trespassing or getting too close. fluffyfeet
So they must have the hump with me then for turfing them out, they must see me as a trespasser in the nest box - little devils Thanks Egluntyne Dawn x
