chocolatedog Posted August 21, 2010 Share Posted August 21, 2010 Yes, that's what Ginger has given us this week..... Not bad for a 3 1/2 year old, eh?! And things are settling down a bit in the eglu and run - all 3 chicken heads were in the same bowl of mash this morning - Ginger tried to peck the newbies a couple of times and then gave up as they were too persistent and all of them were hungry........and this evening when she took herself into the eglu after the newbies had already gone in, there were no squawks, or scrabbling noises at all....... Bossy, my top chook, and 4.5 year old original Omlet hen, presently lays around 19 eggs per month Unfortunately, a good proportion of the eggs have 'inclusions' in the white, so I don't sell them anymore. SJChick Posted August 22, 2010 Share Posted August 22, 2010 Our oldest hen, known as "Granny Hen" because there's been 2 new sets of layers since her generation, is now about 8 years old, she stopped laying completely when she was about 6 but before that she would lay quite regularly but not every day. Now she just goes in the laying box every day and sits on another egg! We think she likes to pretend she's laid it! Every time we get new hens she moves herself into their house - like she thinks we won't notice. We just let her please herself because she is happy.
