A sad result

Recommended Posts

My clutch of 8 eggs were supposed to hatch this weekend. 2 did hatch early on the 19th, but unfortunatly on the night of the 20th day the fan in my incubator packed up and the humidity wouldnt stop fluctuating between 40 and 65%, despite my best efforts to keep it constant. Ive been hanging on hoping that one or two might pip, but after another 20% drop in humidity and a drop in temperature I surrendered and turned the incubator off, admitting defeat. I had to try very hard not to throw the whole thing in the bin! At least I have 2 chicks, a brown leghorn bantam and a lavender araucana bantam. Theyll be spoilt rotten!!

My 1st ever attempt of hatching resulted in no eggs hatching at all...despite them being fertile. I stupidly trusted te in-built themometer/humidity gauge and thought it was fine...but unfortunately...when i put a second gauge in there as a test...i found out it was way too hot and not humid enough. I had 6half baked chicks...was not pleasant! Get a new incy and try again...dont give up!

Thanks for the encouragement. Im lucky that I did at least get two. I just spend so long campaigning to get hatching eggs (seeing as I already have 3 cockerels  ) that I was disappointed that this hatch was bad. Oh well, lets hope these two are girls!!!
