Grub problem?

Recommended Posts

Not sure whether to put this in the chickens section or the eglu section ... ?!

Anyway, does anyone else have problems with the grub being pulled/kicked off the side of a classic run? This has happened several times to me now, I come home from work to find the grub on the floor. I don't really know how it happens but I think the chucks might be climbing on it and pulling it off that way. It's not a huge problem, just a bit worried as last night the grub was upside down so the chooks couldn't get at the food. Any suggestions, please?

Yes i did have the same problem, one of my little ladies was small enough to fit into the space between the grub and the floor directly below the grub so when she ran underneath it, it was knocked off, the solution was just put it down lower and closer to the floor so she couldnt get it off. Hope that makes sense :D

Ours do it all the time. No good putting it lower down either because then they just dig under it and still push it off.

As long as you are looking in one them at least once a day, they won't starve even when they can't get at the food for several hours.

The answer is ..................

garden canes !

Get 2 short pieces, approx 10cm long and jam a piece between where the grub hooks over the bar and the bar above - then they can't lift it off - simples!

Simply remove them when you need to refil grub - works a treat in my run

PS - if not clear, please say, and I'll taje a pic
