Debbie Rooke
I am a new chicken keeper (had my 2 girlies for 2 weeks) . Sybil has laid an egg most days for the whole time we have had her , but Margot has only just started laying. Tuesday, she laid the first one which was a mishapen soft one, Wednesday 's was a small proper egg, but since then she has laid a 2 soft shelled ones and then this morning there were 2 soft marble sized ones. I wasn't too worried as I had read in the book that it often takes a little while for the egg laying to settle in, but 3 or 4 times today she has passed a squirt of water. It is a clear liquid (just like water) with a little dot of white in it. Is this to do with the egg production or is there something wrong? She is eating fine and drinking, and seems happy enough, should I give her extra calcium, Sybil's eggs are normal and they are fed the same food. I just don't want to miss anything if she is not well. Can anyone help?

Plum
If they are having a problem laying eggs they will produce more lubricant. If she is only just starting laying don't worry it usually all settles down in a bit.
Debbie Rooke
Thanks for your help - no egg at all today - but she seems well enough so maybe she will settle down soon. Debbie
