I have raised my own hens from week old chicks. One is a Black Rock and the other a Light Sussex (not very light she is huge!) Anyway they are laying their own eggs now and have been doing since the beginning of August. However the eggs although perfextly formed with good shells, are tiny. These hens are not Bantams, quite the contrary as they both tower above Ruby my only remaining ex-batt yet her eggs are massive. Will they begin to lay large eggs or will they remain very small does anyone know?

You might find that they do grow do you weigh them? I got a Columbine that has never laid over 50gms!!! It is a beautiful tho, although she's not laid for a few weeks, the little madam!

Hi, yes, egg size tends to increase as hens get older. I say "tend to" because not all hens have read the manual!

Hiya! One of our girls laid a tiny egg yesterday, with a very soft shell.

 

Mind you, we've only had them for a week and the man from Omlet did mention they may lay eggs the size of a marble, but they're still okay to eat
