hopetofinish
Well set off for Southmead poultry near Cobham today armed with a dog crate and came back with 4 beautiful girls. The WIR was ready with my purple classic, and hubby had put up branches (thanks for all the ideas), my grub and glug were fitted using a radiator airer just as suggested here. Girls were very calm, with the hybrid sussex being the first to venture out. The kids were excited to see which of their chickens were the first to do something. Nera (by the name of Serverus) was the first to find food, Rudy, the red ranger was the first to peck the other hens and has kept that up. The Sussex was the first one to make it onto the branches. When it was getting dark tonight, the birds were getting anxious about roosting, and they had not entered into the coop yet. They finally took to perching on the brances, and I thought I'll give them 20 minutes then lift them in. 20 minutes later the Nera was sitting pretty in the coop, and the other 3 I just popped away. Simple. No dramas, the dog just ignores them in the run. Even hubby finishing off the run with guttering didn't overly phase them. Day one went well, thanks for all the advice. Clairey_Fairy
It's so exciting! My Eglu should be delivered Tuesday so I hope to get my new girlies next weekend. I feel like a small child waiting for christmas! And I really can't wait. It's so lovely to read all about everyone else picking up their new chickens and how they are settling in. Good Luck
