daxigirl
Hi again, I've just been reading some of the posts on integrating new chickybodies and am wondering how successful it would be to have a couple of pekins in with the big uns I don't really want to keep the as well (I'm thinking 4 newbies in total) when I get my . Also probably a daft question, would the pekins be able to get up the ladder to go the house? Edited September 12, 2010 by Guest
Janty
I have pekins in with the big girls but the introductions took a long time and when I first put them in together the big girls nearly killed my pekin. I am introducing some pekins and Welsummers to the big girls, etc. at the moment in my WIR and don't expect to mix the two until November/December when they are fully used to each other. I always give it a few months and I've never had any pecking/bullying problems using this method. Personally, I'd keep your pekins in the eglu and have only big girls in the cube. That way you've an excuse for more chickens.

chickenlady
Hi ya I have a Marsh Daisy, Pekin, Chocolate Orpington Bantum and Wyandotte Bantum together in a cube..Rose the Pekin can manage the stairs..she wasn't keen the first couple of nights but is fine now. For a while we had a log propped up the side and she used to go up that Now we just have a log at the bottom on the floor of the run just incase she need that extra boost She's always the last one up in the morning and I don't think she is keen on the bars in the cube.....we love her and hope to get another Pekin or two
scarlettohara
I have 8 LF and 6 bantams (4 pekins) and orginally thought I would integrate them, needless to say I now have 2 WIRs, a a and a Mine fr together but the big girls don't take any nonsense from the babies and I wouldn't risk them in an enclosed space. They will lay and sunbathe together but if food is involved the big girls will chase and peck them Edit - the pekins have a ladder to the and spend a lot of time jumping on and off and have no trouble at bedtime.
