Jerm the duck
Hi, I would love some advice.... I have a very happy Aylesbury who is now 18 months old. We have recently collected two consecutive eggs (collected a few hours after they were laid) to find that they are full of blood - not just a small veining or spot, but almost completely dark red/black. She lives with a male mallard, who she constantly hassles for duck loving - although his efforts seem to be mostly in vain! Surely this blood would not be formed in such a young a fertalised egg? Or is it? Are there any other conditions that can cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bec.
Egluntyne
Sounds as if an internal bleed has been incorporated into the egg. It happens from time to time with chickens, so I imagine the same goes for ducks. It generally settles. If it continues, it might be worth asking a vet.
