katieD
hi all after the saga with the 'predator' attack of one of my silkies i am now left with a mini flock of 3 1 Amrock 1 Cochin 1 mini silkie the 2 silkies always stayed together ~(with them being the smallest and bottom of the pecking order) since the death of poppy, miffy (the other silkie) is always on her own dont get me wrong the others arent bothering her- she sometimes hangs out with the cochin but with her being so small she doesnt keep up very well. do you think i need to get another (or 2!) bantams? didnt really plan on replacing Poppy at the moment but dont want a fed up chicken thanks x
Redwing
I would say leave it and they will adjust to the situation in time If you do decide to get another bantam leave it on its own for a week for quarantine then introduce the Silkie to it properly first before introducing them as a pair back to the flock
the bradley bunch
hi katie, sorry to ask as i remember it happening but how long ago did u lose poppy? i'd wait for up to a month (from the time miffy lost poppy) and if you still feel she's a bit lonely then i'd look at getting another silkie for her. i know silkies aren't the hardiest of birds and can easily become left out of the group, so it's always nice if they have the company of one of their kind. but because miffy is still grieving the loss of her friend at the moment it's hard to judge whether it's the right thing to do at this time. you know your girls best so you'll be the best one to judge whether to introduce a new silkie. if you do decide to i think redwings advice is invaluable: If you do decide to get another bantam leave it on its own for a week for quarantine then introduce the Silkie to it properly first before introducing them as a pair back to the flock i hope everything settles down & sorts itself out for you & for little miffy, *thoughts are with you* good luck x
