Eggs just not looking right

Recommended Posts

Hetty, a Miss Pepperpot, has been laying unusual eggs, and I just wanted to check if they are ok to eat. The shells are paler than normal, and have a slightly bumpy surface. The shells also seem fairly thin. But when I crack them open, the yolk sack is often fragile (as in an older egg) even though they are only a couple of days old. And sometimes there is a mottled effect to the egg yolk, and I have taken to throwing such eggs away, even though they do not smell off.

Any ideas as to what is happening? I have added shell to their feed (Organic Layers Pellets), they have all been wormed recently. I did wonder whether she was gearing up for a moult, as she is now in her second year, but not sure.
