CharLeila
Hi, I have been thinking about getting a couple of Silkies but would need an excuse to get them. Do you think if I told my wife they would keep the otehr 4 girls warm in winter that she would agree? Also, is there anything special you have to do or give silkies and how are they in the wet/snow? Would also need to find a breeder in my area too (Peterborough) Cheers
Redwing
They arent good in the wet, cold and windy weather - generally they are hardy but its their feathering that lets them down, they need a sheltered roofed run if they arent to look constantly miserable Tinson and Hidden are up there with the top Silkie breeders - http://www.exhibitionsilkies.co.uk/ The thing about Silkies is that they are so popular people can normally name their price and so you run the risk of ending up with substandard ones, always buy from a reputable breeder. The Silkie Club GB will hold a list of breeders Silkies are prone to Mareks disease, buy from a breeder who vaccinates or runs a closed flock of resistant birds
