What with all the awful wet weather we’ve had lately we decided yesterday that the girls run was far too stinky and wet to leave any longer before clearing out. Which was annoying because we only changed the bedding 2 weeks ago.

So we emptied it all out and scrubbed it all down and then thought what is the point of putting more bedding down when the rain is going to be just as bad this coming week we might as well hold off to save it getting ruined again.

 

Now our WIR is coming next Monday so the plan was to leave them for the week. Last night they went to bed fine, this morning it had rained again over night and despite the run being covered in tarpaulin it had still got wet inside and the water was puddling in a few places. It will be alright we thought but oh no we didn’t reckon on the Princesses that we have created. They took one look at the lake outside their door this morning and completely refused to leave the house. I had their favourite breakfast in the run all ready for them but they weren’t having any of it!

 

We opened the back door of the cube and gave them a little stroke which is usually guaranteed to send them running like screaming banshees away from us but no not today - the Mississippi river outside was definitely more scary than the monsters at the back door.

 

In the end we had to physically lift each girl from the back of the cube and dump them in the run, they all ran for the dry spots and refused to go near the puddles. Doris jumped onto the perch in the run and sat there squawking. Little Mary refused to move out of the dust bath. The noise was horrendous, the neighbours must have thought we were killing them for the pot! It was a good 10 minutes before hunger overtook the other 3 and they started on their breakfast, when I left for work Doris was still on the perch and refusing to come down.

 

Needless to say we are filling the run with fresh bedding first thing in the morning.
