mrs chook
I got an araucana, jersey giant and two hybrids (back in mid august) and they live in an extension to our wir attached to shed. I am hoping to snip the partition next week (during half term for supervision purposes ) and therefore have 3 older ones plus these four all in wir with shed as accomodation, so they can get cosy together for winter months - just wondering what anyone with experience of this would say - only one of hybrids has started laying, other hybrid must be around 18-20 wks now but has immature comb growth. They must all be pol age - As I say they have been in adjoining runs for two months now - any suggestions??
beach chick
I would have said after 2 months they should be pretty used to each other. perhaps just be on hand in case any fighting breaks out - armed with a broom or a water pistol?! mrs chook
Thanks - just a bit wary but as I say they've been neighbours since mid Aug so hope that will help
Ain't Nobody Here
I had a similar setup and put my newbies in with the oldies recently. The old girls still go for the little ones quite often but only for a single peck. I think the trick is giving the little ones plenty of space to escape. Mine just run like the clappers if they see a big girl coming . Night-time is fine as they're all sleepy (and the big girls go to bed first anyway). mrs chook
Thanks-there is quite alot of room now as we added extension to wir intending to open the partition when time was right plus they have half of shed as 'bedroom' ;D. Just wish one of newbies would hurry and get thru puberty lol
