Need help in deciding!

Recommended Posts

Ive been trying to stop some feather pulling between my new girls for a few weeks, i have used both Johnsons anti-peck spray and hen this didnt work i moved onto Nettex spray, both with no luck. Smokey is full of scabs and sore patches and her back end is almost bald - i have now seperated her because its got so bad, but i would like to get them back together asap. I have turned on the computer this morning with the intention of getting some bumperbits online, but i have just come across some articles that say they are now actually illegal as they can cause damage to the nostrils, pierce the membranes, cause infections etc so now i am unsure! ive also just read of someones experience with feather pullung, they used Ukadex and the problem stopped. Is this stuff really going to be more effective that he Nettex? The Nettex absolutley stinks and is thick and sticky like tar, it has stunk out my whole house and garden, and the taste has been in the back of my throat (spray misfire into my mouth!!!) for over week. Im now not sure whether to give it a go with the Ukadex - or is this going to be more money down the drain? or should i just take the plunge and go for the bumperbits?? Any advice would be greatfully received! thanks.

One of my ex batts Lola is a feather plucker sepecially from other ex batt Lily. I seperated Lola for two weeks to give Lilys feathers chance to grow back. They are back together now and all Lilys lovely new feathers have gone. I have used UKadex but it hasn't stopped the problem completely as Lola just start on a new area. I really don't want to use bumper bits as I feel Lola has been through enough in her life. I have now hing pecking blocks and CDs in the run to see if it helps. The girls now have a choice of Celine Dion or Whitney Houston.

I bet it's stopped you pecking any feathers though?

Sorry couldn't resist. Personally I'm not that keen on bumper bits since reading on here that it had pulled the whole beak off a chuck.

Rather than seperating out the victim have you tried taking out the bully? A bit of divide and conquer sometimes helps. Also if you're around when it happens a squirt from a pump action water pistol quietens things down.

Failing that a piece of netting or bamboo fening down the middle of the run to create two runs.

We often found that the weaker girl or victim was smaller than the others and obviously not getting enough to eat, so we used to take her off and feed her up on a bit if tuna - she soon started to toughen up - still loves Tuna though :D

Good Luck ;)
