Bramble
Hello! Does anyone out there make ginger beer from a ginger beer "plant"? If so, would you be prepared to share your recipe for the plant and resulting ginger beer, please (a non-alcoholic one, ideally). Also, is it ok to use plastic fizzy drink bottles to keep the beer in, or do they have to be glass? How long does the beer keep once made? Sorry, lots of stupid questions, but I'd like to make some GB for my brother for christmas so would like it to be nice! Thanks all!!
Couperwife
Hi we have made ginger beer from a ginger beer plant but it is alcoholic, its got yeast, and it ferments, so if you use this process it will always be alcoholic. you can make it less alcholic if you dont use as much sugar, but it is still unwise to drive if you drink it. with the bottles, plastic ones are better than glass, we have experience of a glass bottle exploding and experience of a plastic 2 litre lemonade bottle ending up the size of a 3 litre bottle because it had expanded so much the trick is to keep releasing the "fizz" and try and keep it under control. hope this is helpful edited cos I forgot the recipe clinky linky cathy x
