reneepren
I usually work from home but had to train people early in the week in the main office, so left the girls in the run for two days. Felt bad on the third day so let them out before I left. They had never tried to escape my garden which has 7 foot block walls covered in dense foliage. I was delayed leaving work and got home near dusk to find they had not all put themselves to bed in the coop. Did a head count as best I could in near dark. Next day I found myself counting to nine a lot as they roamed the garden. But they were never all together so could not pin down my unease. A neighbor knocked on the door yesterday afternoon and asked if I had chickens. Speckledeedee had come over the wall and spent the night there. She was looking quite shell shocked when I went over to capture her. She is the brightest and most adventurous of the girls, a Speckled Sussex. Gave the cute neighbor boy a dozen eggs to thank him!
