Has anyone got any good recipes for drying food in a dehydrator or ideas about what can be dried?

We mainly do plain fruit. Apples (with or without cinnamon), drained tinned pineapples, tomatoes, casserole veg mix, mango, chillis (keep out of the way of people though as the air gets full of chilli and can make your eyes sting), bananas & the odd mobile phone that has been through the washing machine

Mine arrived today and I'm in the process of making my first fruit leathers and banana chips. Hope they turn out ok.

I put mine on last thing at night and then things are ready by morning. It may depend which one you have though.

What dehydrators has everyone got and how are you finding them? Are they easy to achieve good results with?

Great question, I've ummed and ahhed about a dehydrator for a while but worry it will end up as an unused gadget. I'd be really interested to hear which models you have and how good (or otherwise, they are). Sorry to hijack the post!!!

I read loads of reviews before buying mine and went with the Excalibur in the end. It was quite expensive, but there's loads of space to dry stuff, which I thought important as you need to leave it on for so long to get anything dried. I've only used it once so far, so can't really say much, but so far so good. I'm hoping it will prove useful next summer/autumn when I run out of fridge and freezer space trying to store my fruit and veg.

 

The fruit leathers and banana chips were a success. I wonder what I should try next...

 

Oh and because pre-ordered it from Juiceland, I got the sheet thingies for fruit leathers (worth about 50 quid) for free.
