Help! Our chicken run has turned into a complete mud bath with all the rain we've been having recently. Our 2 chooks live in a big enclosed pen which used to be lawn and is now just dirt. Inside the pen is an eglu with run attached which a tarpaulin over it so their food and water is always dry and they have shelter. But the rest of the area looks like a mud bath and the chickens are getting very dirty! I'm worried this will spread disease or ill health. Any suggestions for improving the floor?

Welcome to the forum :) . Lots of people use horse bedding (Hemcore/Aubiose/Easibed - there are lots of other types) in their runs which helps to keep things dry but you do need to cover the run as they are very absorbant - don't know if that's an option for you?

Alternatively, I would suggest Stalosan F (or another powdered disinfectant) which will help to dry things up a bit and will keep nasties at bay. You could also put down some garden lime which will neutralise the acidity from all the poop.
