I intend to construct a WIR and will use welded mesh for the sides. My problem is that I can't decide what mesh size to order. By size I mean the size of the holes.

 

1/2" X 1/2" ; 1/2" X 1" ; 1" X 1" or other? BTW for those metricated peoples " equals inch ( an old English measurement used when we Brits ruled an Empire)

 

I do have a very local Mr. fox and family so it has to be secure. I intend to staple it with 12mm staples onto sturdy treated wood.

 

Any help or advice is very welcome.

Any of those will be fine. My mesh is all 1 x 1 which helps the run look more open.

 

Its the strength that will keep the fox out, you'll need 16 or 19g

Thanks for the reply Redwing. I think that I will go for 1X1 for the very reason that you mentioned.

We have used 19g and 1 x1 weldmesh on the WIR. All it needs now is putting together.

I have 1/2 by 1 inch, chosen to stop rats getting in- a rat could get through 1x1 inch. Irrelevant though, if like me you have a dirt floor, the little so and sos just tunnel under
