julusc
Hi Can anyone help, my poor khaki campbell has been laying soft eggs recently and looking in a sorry state but today her stomach looks distended and she's struggling to walk? Is she egg bound? Any suggestions what to do? Many thanks
Chucky1
Hi JulusC Unless someone more knowledgable comes along, I'd trot her off to the vet. Good Luck
miller30
Hi i would keep a good eye on her sometimes my ducks get the odd egg stuck and are limping but during the night they seem to lay it and come running out the next day fine dont let it go on too long as my cherry valley salt became egg bound and took about 5 days to lay an egg the size of a goose egg with another egg inside it and then about 30 mins later laid another ive never seen anything like it i tried everything to help her lay that dam egg but when i got her to the vets she had suffered internal injuries so i asked for her to be put to sleep and they said no and sent her home on baytril and she suffered for 5 days until she died i would never go through that again i dont have much faith in vets now try putting her in a warm bath for an hour do it for a few times but if that doesnt work take her to the vets yours will hopefully be better than mine dont let my story scare you i just wanted to let you know good luck leanne. That really is awful Leanne. We can only put our trust in vets but I guess some are no good with feathered friends. I hope you get your duck sorted julusc. julusc
thats an awful story its really horrible to see them suffer, anyway its not looking good for my khaki just brought her inside for a better look and her stomach is really swollen with what feels like fluid and when my partner had a look in vent its looks like theres a reddish fleshy coloured lump, her feathers are all ruffled and there was blood coming out of her vent. The only positive is shes eating and drinking and still swimming in the pond and pottering around but I think I'm going to take her to the vets if she makes it through the night, fingers crossed
miller30
Hi i cant believe after 18 months that still made my eyes start to water when i wrote my story about salt she was so friendly i rehomed her with her sister pepper after her previous owners couldnt be bothered with them anymore so they came to freerange in my garden with all my ducks she was more like a human than a duck i cried for days anyway i hope you get your duck sorted out leanne
Chucky1
Jules - any update? Leanne - one of our ducks was a little crook a few months ago. The vet was fantastic, really looked after Maisey and I was really pleased and relieved after all the stuff you read on here about V's. Then my SIL recounted something she had heard about a dog with a similar story to yours (without mentioning too many specifics you know) and I thought well its one instance and its third hand and .... Then a neighbour of ours who buys eggs from us said that she took her dog to him but wouldn't go there again. V had told her the dog had ringworm and she kept going back week after week getting medicines, doing no good, until she took it somewhere else and they cured ut then and there and said it obviously was not ringworm and .... So now I spose we're in the same boat as everyone else. good luck
julusc
Hi Just to let you know, took her to the vets, they were really good and thought the same as me that she was egg bound, they gave her a painkiller and antibiotics and well shes still here pottering around and her feathers aren't looking so ruffled and i think her stomach maybe even going down slightly so fingers crossed that shes getting better, I guess only time will tell!!!
