GGLGirls
Hi, Lemon my top chook is going through quite a moult at the moment (50% loss mainly on her underside, chest, shoulders and neck) . Although her feathers are starting to grow back she doesnt seem to be interested in nibbling at the thick skin which grows with the feathers, leaving her looking like a porcupine. Although she tries to puff herself out to keep warm the lack of feathers dont seem to cover her bare bits. She's also not really sitting down, but seems to stand a lot with her chest extended. She stands for ages on my lap and trembles, bless her, shes a little withdrawn but is still eating and drinking, and has a slight heavy breathe, like shes starting to get bunged up. What can I do to keep her warm during the day (she has her 2 sisters to keep her warm at night tucked up in bed), and do you think shes got a simple cold or something more serious for the vet to help with? Many thanks
Patricia W
I'd be inclined to keep her in so you can observe her. Then pop her down to the vet if she's no better. The heavy breathing sounds like it could be a chest infection - a course of Baytril usually sorts that out. But it can be fatal if left.
