bouldercroft
My girls are on organic layer pellets with either hot porridge in the morning or a little bowl of veggie peelings (depending on the weather) I've recently started making my own 'flock block' to keep them amused as they while away the day in the run. It's made of nuts, oats, some coconut, some egg shells, a few bread crumbs. It's 90% nuts so I figured this was good protein and not really a 'treat'. Because I'm out at work all day I have to put the flock-block up in the mornings... Am I giving them the human equivalent of chocolate before breakfast? A block (3x3x1 inch) lasts my three hens about 5 days so they aren't gorging themselves on it..
Redwing
I think it probably is, nuts while good for protein are quite fatty Its a great idea though and if they arent gorging themselves then I'd worry less but maybe make it with more grain and less nuts
