Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

Hello all,

 

I've not been here for some time. My chickens, Sage and Onion are doing fine, but Onion managed to develop some sort of infection in the skin around her vent and the vet has put her on a course of antibiotics which she has now completed (and looks much better for).

 

The vet has told us we can't eat her eggs for 28 days which is a real shame. Sage's eggs on the other hand are fine. But how do I tell which they are? Given my wife and I work and cannot sit by the cooop waiting for them to lay does anyone have any tips for working out which hen laid which egg short of buying a separate eglu and keeping them apart?

You can smear some food colouring across her vent. This will transfer onto the egg when she lays and you will know which one to throw away. Much cheaper than a new eglu!

Excellent, thank you very much. Will a new layer of food colouring be required each night?

Ummm, not sure. I would think it probably would.
