Bramble
I have three hens, who between them used to go through about 5kg of feed in two weeks during the summer and I would generally get two eggs most days. They have moulted recently and haven't laid for about six weeks. I'm concerned though that their food consumption has dropped hugely, I reckon its taken about a month for them to go through 5kg. They seem absolutely fine in themselves and aren't being stuffed with treats (just a few meal worms every couple of days). I just wondered if they are not eating as much because they are not laying, or are they not laying cos they are not eating (bit of a "chicken and egg question" really?) Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
Pharaoh
My three are laying well but not eating much of their feed. They pick at what I put out for them in their porridge before it freezes! They are not looking glossy and there are occasional feathers around. They are fine in themselves and have managed to find a sheltered spot out of the snow to lie in. Egluntyne
They don't eat nearly as much when they are off lay, so nothing to worry about as you say they are otherwise well.
Bramble
Thank you, that's very reassuring. They do seem perfectly well in themselves and I am making them a mash with their ex-batt crumbs every morning as they do seem to eat all of that quite quickly. Thank you!!!
