RAC insurance (rant)

Recommended Posts

I have been with RAC insurance for a few years now,

My policey was up for renewal so we had a look to see if we could get a bettr deal and found one.

I have called to cancel my RAC cover only to be told they couldn't garentee that it would be taken out as

i had left in to the day it was due.

They then said that if the do taken the money out then they could not refund it straight away by law until i

send the cover note back to them (this could take 10 days for me to get it).

Has anyone heard of this law or are RAC taking the micky?

Hi the rules on motor insurance are pretty strict as all data is now held on a central database which the Police etc have access to. Policies payable by direct debit are automatically renewed on the renewal date and as you left it until the renewal date to tell them you were going elsewhere they would have already sumbitted the data.

In addition the motor certificate is a legal document and they must have this back before they can cancel the policy or they will be breaking the FSA regulations (which are VERY strict)

Also direct debit instructions are given about 5 days before an instalment is collected so it would not have been possible to stop the payment on the day it was due.

After saying all that you should get all the money back that you have paid as you did advise them on the renewal date that you didn't want to renew.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear but I work in Insurance and have to live with the constant red tape!
