Dirty bottom?

Recommended Posts

My black hybrid Nessa had a small clump of dried poo on her vent yesterday, which I cut off and cleaned up. This morning there is a whitish mark on her feathers again where she has pooed. Her poo is perfectly normal and she is otherwise well, although not laying but in moult.

Does she have worms or mites? I worm them regularly with verm-x and they get dusted with diatom and I have never seen either on them.

Could it be just because she is black and the white part of poo is touching her feathers on the way down? Don't know how clean they should be!

Thanks for any advice.

It seems that with this cold weather a lot of chickens are sleeping in the nest. One of mine is, and the nest is pretty pooey in the morning. Maybe yours is doing the same?

I worm mine with Flubenvet, most people here prefer to use it as it seems to be a more reliable way of getting rid of worms. Also, it's worth checking if they've got lice, last time my Bluebelle was looking a bit mucky I found some lice on her and she looked much better soon after spraying her bum with an anti-mite spray.

Hope this helps. :D

Edited to add: Doh! You've already checked for lice, must learn how to read! :D
