Poorly chicken

Now my girls have finally started laying ( hoo-flippin'-rah......only been waiting since September!) they have stopped pooing in the little nesting box, and started kicking all the aubiose out of the box. When I checked them this morning, Patty's egg was sat in the little drainage hole, like it was in an egg cup! Is there anyhting better I can use, to stop them kicking it all around. I used to line it with newspaper, but was told that this might suck up the damp....I have got access to shredded paper, but reading the forum, some people say their hens eat it! SO any advice?? Ta Omleteers x x x

I haven't found one. The 2 that lay do the same as yours when they're staying in their at my mum's, I tried shredded paper but they just kept bringing that out into the run.

I'll just keep re-filling it then!!! silly girls.........

That'll be the way to go. I've also found a cork works quite well to stop it dropping out of the hole in the bottom of the nest box (as they poop in it overnight it get's changed daily anyway so it doesn't matter that it gets sweaty).
