EmVicW
Hi, I bought my first 3 chickens from Thornes in Letchworth a week and a half ago and am really enjoying them. I have a Silver Nick (the most friendly), a Coral and a Light Sussex. Two are laying regularly, but I cannot work out which. I am getting a very pale egg and a pale browny coloured egg. I would be really grateful of any advice on which they may be coming from! I am pretty sure the Coral is laying the pale egg. The Sussex is younger, but the man at Thornes felt her and said she was already laying. The Silver Nick's comb is a little paler than the other two, and she is also right at the bottom of the pecking order and gets a fair bit of grief from the Sussex. Any guesses? Redwing
Its hard to say by the colour of the eggs, they would all be pretty similar If a hen is in lay you can fit two fingers width between the jutting out pelvic bones, if she isnt laying the space will be narrower You could also dab their vents with food colouring to work it out as the eggs will then be marked with the colour
Old Speckled Hen
Well I have five hens and six different colour eggs (though not on the same day, I hasten to add).................Do you think my cockerel might be laying?
