Rhesus
Haven't been on for ages but one of my chooks seems to have been going through a moult for what seems like a year. She has a red bum, signs of feathers coming through but looking really bedraggled. No other health problems, feeding, drinking, moving well, so I know she's not poorly. No signs of mites or lice either. What else should I be doing. Read on here to put some sudocrem on, but that's not going to get her feathers back??? mostin
It sounds to me as if someone is eating her feathers as soon as they are growing back, or she has mites that you can't see. To rule both possibilities out, I think you need to keep her housed alone and away from potential feather peckers, and treat with either xeno-200 or eprinex so that all mites being carried will be killed. Feather re-growth should soon be seen.
percy049
you could also try giving your chicken some extra protein, in the form of cat food or mealworms maybe
fujcube
My Lavender Aracauna was exactly the same. She was bald and red when we got her and she never really improved that much, despite fitting the other hens with bumber bits and spraying her rear end with purple spray. Eventually, I decided enough was enough and moved her to our front garden to move in with our Call Duck. They are now the best of friends and the feathers on her rear end are growing back nicely. She'll be a stunner in a few months time! Regards, fujcube
