KateCooke
I have 4 bantams and one has not started laying apart from these tiny little grape sized eggs, is this normal, my others laid perfect eggs straight away. She has been laying about 4 a week for teh last 2 months, is their anything i can do?
Daphne
I presume she isn't a teeny tiny bantam or a cross from something small like a Jap, Serama or Dutch? All hens can lay odd eggs to start with, and these very small eggs are called wind eggs which a bird can lay from time to time (often towards the end of her laying life as well as at the start) but 2 months should be long enough to sort the usual haphazardness. I'm not sure what the issue is, I'm afraid, so can't think what to suggest.
KateCooke
Thanks, I have read about these wind eggs, and have seen the photo's of people tiny eggs on teh forum but no-one seems to indicate how long this will go on for or whether there is anything i can do. Any advice please. Kate
Daphne
I'm pretty certain there isn't anything you can do, I am assuming the bird has a good quality feed plus access to mixed grit. I'm under the impression that they don't go on for long under normal circs (ie beginning of laying or coming to end of lay); yours sounds unusual. I've only ever had one once and its so long ago I can't remember the first thing about who laid it or anything.
JillM
Are the eggs 'normal' inside?
KateCooke
Yes, feed normal, eggs continue to be tiny, they are not normal inside they are thick clear stuff, no yoke. Desperate to have them all laying.
