DianeB Posted April 1, 2011 Share Posted April 1, 2011 Hi there, I've got three hens, two of which started laying again back in mid-February. The third one laid two eggs around the same time, when we had a warm spell in February, but hasn't laid again since then. She's a light sussex, just over two years old, and was laying most days last year until the end of October. She looks very healthy, good appetite, can't see anything else wrong with her. The only thing I can think of is that I haven't wormed her for a while, but would this stop egg production? Any other ideas? Has she come to the end of her egg production at two?!! Olly Posted April 2, 2011 Share Posted April 2, 2011 Worming would be a good idea if it hasn't been done recently, however she may have just reached the 'hennopause'. They can go on to three or four, but bear in mind that commercial chicken-keepers usually dispose of their hens at 12-18 months because egg production is less reliable. You might get intermittent eggs over the summer. Tell your OH that she may be 'dual-purpose' but at two years old, she'd be a bit tough ...
