goodinparts
This evening, one week after their arrival, I decided it was time to let the 2 pekins, Hope & Charity, explore the chicken garden outside the run...Because they've all been Free Ranged round by the rest of the flock, I thought I would skip a stage and let the little belgian bantams FR with them.... Bear in mind that the bantams d'Anvers are so tiny that pekins look like Jersey Giants in comparison.......then imagine my surprise when Patience and Prudence decided to square up to Hope & Charity, bearing down on them with chests puffed up. It was a VERY unequal conflict and poor Patience, already the bottom of every pecking order, found herself being mounted and trodden by the two new girls If ONLY they had the sense to live and let live, there wouldbe no issue at all - but hey, such are chickens! Space Chick
I can just picture the scene! Chickens, honestly, what are they like Pekins are feisty madams though, my two are higher up the pecking order than some of my big girls Seeing a tiny frizzle pekin chase a big old ex batt down the garden if quite hilarious
goodinparts
Does make me worry a wee bit about how things will work when the faverolles arrive later in the year - I really CANT have another set up for them - temporary intro pen, yes, long term 3 establishments would be too much for both the space and the family (and my finances too, I fear)...However, there's no rush - and by September, say, surely they should all have sorted themselves out amicably....please!
