speckled hen
Hello there My orpington has gone broody and is currently sat on 15 eggs! I hadn't realised she was sitting untill yesterday, so I think she has been on the eggs for 4 days now . She is in the nest box of the cube, I don't want to leave her with the others as they want to lay eggs and cookie is filling the box!!! I do have a smallish rabbit hutch that isn't used and a temp run, should I move her???? If so what do I need to do?? Sorry but I am a complete novice at this. Many Thanks for any help. speckled hen
Thanks for the reply, she looks really cosey!! My hutch has legs but hubby could cut them off if needs be? Do I need to fill it with straw or easy bedding? She is sat in the nest box of the cube at the minute and is not planning on bidging so really need to move her out of the way. Also do you think 15 eggs is too many for an orp?
Cheryl
I have filled the hutch with straw.. and as you can see, have put a little strip of hardboard so when the chicks hatch they cant fall out. but you don't need to do that until they are almost hatched. I think the amount of eggs you have under there are a bit too much for her, I would thin them out to about 8, can you candle them to see which ones are viable and thin them out that way?.. I moved mine when it just started to get dark, and she reattached herself almost straight away
speckled hen
I will give that a go and move her onto the best looking eggs, I have just identified one that looks promising. It's all very exciting

speckled hen
Quick update, cookie is now sat on 10 eggs in her hutch. I had to cover the front with a sheet as she prefers the dark - guessing that she got used to it in the cube. I lift her off each night, then she hops back in as soon as she can Really ought to have a go at candling the eggs, not sure when though, to be honest I don't know what day we are on, about day 9 I think Will give it another couple of days and then have a peak.
