troyca
Help. My chief chook is eating the eggs of one of the lesser girls in the flock of three. I caught her in the act this afternoon. Before now I thought it might have been the lower chook but NO! Now what? They have plenty of space and are generally pampered. I have been wondering why I haven't often been getting the usual three eggs per day. They have been together just over a year now and nothing like this has happened before. Chucky Mama
Are they very thin shelled? They are more likely to eat eggs if they break upon laying.
troyca
No. I have tried adding extra calcium, milk to drink, golf balls to sit on. Still the behavior persists.
Lavenders_Blue
When I had this problem with one of my hens, I blew a couple of the eggs out and filled the shells with mustard, then popped them back in the nesting box. Next time she sneaked in for a feast she got a nasty surprise but hasn't eaten any more eggs since.
